Fish

Fish are aquatic vertebrate animals that are typically cold-blooded, covered with scales, and equipped with two sets of paired fins and several unpaired fins. Fish are abundant in the sea and in fresh water, with species being known from mountain streams as well as in the deepest depths of the ocean

There are many types of fish. Few examples are as follows.

Killifish

The name killifish is derived from the Dutch word "kilde", meaning small creek, puddle. Most killies are small fish, from one to two inches (2.5 to 5 cm), with the largest species growing to just under six inches (15 cm).

Many killifish are lavishly coloured; and most species are easy to keep and breed in an aquarium. In the aquarium, killifish exhibit territorial behavior. In a large enough aquarium, most species can live in groups as long as there are more than three males.

Sharks

Sharks are a type of fish with a full cartilaginous skeleton and a highly streamlined body. They respire with the use of five to seven gill slits. Sharks have a covering of dermal denticles that protect their skin from damage and parasites and improve fluid dynamics. They have several sets of replaceable teeth.

Sharks range in size of only 17 centimetres (7 in) in length, to the whale shark, the largest fish, which grows to a length of approximately 12 metres (39 ft) and which feeds only on plankton, squid, and small fish through filter feeding.

Eels

Eel is characterized by an elongated, snake-like body, the absence of pelvic fins, and typically without scales or with the scales embedded in the skin. Eels generally are found in marine environments and freshwater.

Eels provide various values for the ecosystem and for humans Furthermore, many species, particularly freshwater varieties, are also popular as a food fish, particularly in Asia and Europe, where the meat is considered a delicacy, Ecologically, eels are important in food chains, acting as predators of fish and such invertebrates as crustaceans and mollusks, and being consumed in its various stages by fish, mammals, birds, and various invertebrates.

Pikes

Esox (Linnaeus, 1758) is a genus of freshwater fish, the only living genus in the family Esocidae. The species of this genus are known as the pikes.

The pike feeds on a wide range of food sources, predominantly smaller shoal fish. Pike are also cannibalistic, sometimes preying upon smaller members of their own species. They are undeserving of their fierce reputation with only a few minor incidents of pike 'attacks' on people being substantiated.

They will also prey on insects and amphibians such as newts or frogs in times when food is scarce, and occasionally on small mammals, like moles or mice when caught water-borne. Small birds such as ducklings may become a target for hungry pike. Pikes are also known to prey on swimming snakes, such as vipers.

Carps

Carp is a common name for various freshwater fish of the family Cyprinidae, a very large group of fish originally from Eurasia and southeast Asia.

Carp, along with many of their cyprinid relatives, are popular ornamental aquarium and pond fish. The two most notable ornamental carps are coarse fish that are difficult to hook. In the United States, the carp is also classified as a rough fish as well as damaging naturalized exotic species but with sporting qualities.

Salmon

Salmon is the common name for several species of fish of the family Salmonidae. The fish is pink and silver. Several other fish in the family are called trout. Salmon live in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, as well as the Great Lakes and other lakes.

The salmon has long been at the heart of the culture and livelihood of coastal dwellers. Most peoples of the Northern Pacific shore had a ceremony to honor the first return of the year. For many centuries, people caught salmon as they swam upriver to spawn.

Catfish

Catfish (order Siluriformes) are a diverse group of fish. They are named for their prominent barbels, slender, whisker-like tactile organs near the mouth, which give the image of cat-like whiskers. Some catfish are known to communicate with one other thru special sounds.

In Asia, many catfish species are important food fish. Several walking catfish (Clariidae) and shark catfish (Pangasiidae) species are heavily cultured in Africa and Asia.
